First Four games start today with St. Francis (16) taking on Alabama State (16) at 6:40pm ET and UNC* (11) taking on San Diego St (11)
*UNC was the last team in the tournament, and there’s a bit of controversy around the selection. The Tar Heels are 1-12 against Quadrant 1 opponents (a measure of quality teams in the NCAA), which the selection committee stated would weigh heavily into the decision.
For contrast, arguably the biggest snub, West Virginia, went 6-10 against Q1 teams.
The biggest part of the controversy? The selection committee’s chair is UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham. No conflict of interest there or anything.
TODAY’S TRIVIA: Over the weekend, we had our first American win the LA Marathon since 1994.
Matt Richtman set a personal best time of 2:07.56, 3 minutes ahead of Kenya’s Athanas Kioko, to secure the win.
Richtman was an All-American cross country runner for Montana State.
