Morning thoughts
Yeah yeah yeah congrats to the Brewers or whatever. As a Vikings and a Dodgers fan, I don’t love a good night in Milwaukee.
One thing that’s fun is that we will have two first-time champions this week: the WNBA Finals are going to a Game 7 for the first time ever, and neither team has won a title.
Last week's winners
Champion: “Jimmy O’Leniquan”
Jimmy went 11/12 and won it on the tiebreaker over “Taco man,” who also had 11. His guess of $2,500 was $169 off, which was $12 closer than “Taco man’s” guess.
Closest to the Pin: “Fiona M-M”
Fiona guessed $2,369 for the cheapest World Series Game 1 ticket, just $38 off the actual $2,331.
Fun tidbit of the week
William Contreras was named World Series MVP on Wednesday night, a decade after his older brother Willson won a ring with the 2016 Cubs. So the Contreras brothers have now been part of ending a 108-year drought and a 57-year one.
“The Game” this weekend:
WNBA Finals Game 7: Dream at Valkyries
This is the first Game 7 in WNBA Finals history, and somebody wins their first title Saturday night. The Valkyries are only in their second season. The Dream joined the league in 2008 and are in their fourth Finals, but they've never won one.
How to watch: Saturday, 8:00 PM ET on USA and Peacock.
Also this weekend:
My unbeaten Vikings (6–0) at Lions (4–2): Sunday, 1:00 PM ET on FOX
Georgia (3) vs. Florida (20) in Atlanta (the game's usual Jacksonville home is under renovation): Saturday, 3:30 PM ET on ABC
Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland, with defending champ Forever Young trying to become only the second horse to win it twice: Saturday, 6:16 PM ET on NBC and Peacock
Kimi Antonelli can clinch the F1 title in Mexico City: Sunday, 3:00 PM ET on Apple TV
This week's trivia:
Q1. We're getting the first Game 7 in WNBA Finals history. The Dream beat the Valkyries 80–69 in Atlanta yesterday to even the series, and Angel Reese did a little of everything: 15 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists.
Reese was a star in college too, where she won a national championship before turning pro.
Which school did Angel Reese win a national championship with?
