We have the NBA Finals starting tonight at 8:30pm ET on ABC as the Oklahoma City Thunder take on the Indiana Pacers.

The intrigue:

  • This Thunder team has been historically good: they are 80-18, including the playoffs. Only the three teams have ever done that: the ‘15-16 Warriors that eventually lost in the final, and the Bulls in back-to-back seasons (‘96 and ‘97 NBA champions)

  • Tyrese Haliburton has been on a tear through these playoffs after getting voted “Most Overrated” in an anonymous NBA player poll.

  • Both have Paul George to thank for their rosters: the Thunder traded George to the Clippers for MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, 5 first-round picks, and more. The Pacers traded George for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis (who was eventually traded for Haliburton)
