The free newsletter making HR less lonely

The best HR advice comes from people who’ve been in the trenches.

That’s what this newsletter delivers.

I Hate it Here is your insider’s guide to surviving and thriving in HR, from someone who’s been there. It’s not about theory or buzzwords — it’s about practical, real-world advice for navigating everything from tricky managers to messy policies.

Every newsletter is written by Hebba Youssef — a Chief People Officer who’s seen it all and is here to share what actually works (and what doesn’t). We’re talking real talk, real strategies, and real support — all with a side of humor to keep you sane.

Because HR shouldn’t feel like a thankless job. And you shouldn’t feel alone in it.

The Headline: Over the weekend, Orioles pitcher Brandon Young took a perfect game bid into the eighth inning. It was the longest any pitcher has been perfect this season.

Final statline: 8.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 SO in a 7-0 win over the Astros

He would have been a pretty unlikely candidate to toss 9 a perfect game: through 11 starts this season (including Friday’s 8-inning outing), he is 1-6 with a 5.68 ERA

Hint: June 28, 2023

There have only been 24 perfect games in MLB history. Two comparables:

  • A four-home run game has occurred only 18 times

  • An unassisted triple play (one player is responsible for all three outs) has only occurred 15 times

Yesterday’s Trivia:

Indian Wells & Miami are the only other two ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 tournaments based in the US, along with the Cincinnati Open.

Carlos Alcaraz won yesterday after Jannick Sinner retired after losing the first 5 games. He mentioned that it was due to an illness, so I’m sure he’s looking to get healthy ahead of next week’s US Open.

On the women’s side, Iga Świątek beat Jessica Paolini in straight sets (7-5, 6-4)
