Wednesday Trivia
The Headline: I can’t believe myself. I did not have the question yesterday that celebrated Bobby Bonilla Day.
If you’re not familiar, Bobby Bonilla was a 6-time All-Star who played for the Mets until 2001.
In 2000, the Mets wanted to offload Bonilla’s $5.9M contract to make annual payments of $1.2M for 25 years starting in 2011. At the time, the Mets were making “great returns” while investing in a Bernie Madoff account (remember him), so they were comfortable with the 8% interest on the contract.
Because of that deal, Bobby Bonilla (age 63) received his 15th payment yesterday of $1.2M. He will keep getting paid until 2035.
TODAY’S TRIVIA: You’re getting a Bobby Bonilla question.
