Wednesday Trivia

We have the Stanley Cup Final starting tonight at 8pm ET on TNT/truTV as the defending champion Florida Panthers take on the Edmonton Oilers in a rematch of last season’s final.

The intrigue:

  • Connor McDavid has been considered the best hockey player on the planet for the last decade, and he could be the one to finally bring the Cup back to Canada after 32 long years (last Cup win was the Canadiens in 1993)

  • Although the Oilers are led by McDavid and fellow superstar Leon Draisaitl (they lead the playoffs with 26 and 25 points, respectively), the defending champs are arguably deeper this year than last season

  • One interesting thing I found this week: this is the 12th time there has been a Stanley Cup rematch, and the last two times, Wayne Gretzky’s Oilers avenged their loss to the NY Islanders in 1984 to win his first cup, and Sydney Crosby’s Penguins avenged theirs against the Detroit Red Wings in 2009 to secure his first cup. Could McDavid follow in their footsteps?

TODAY’S TRIVIA: Here’s a geo-question for you.

The Oilers are one of two franchises based in the province of Alberta.

Wild Stat: A teammate of Hall of Famer Jaromír Jágr has made the Stanley Cup Final every season for the last 45 years. That streak continues this season after the Panthers clinched a spot in the final (former teammates with Aleksander Barkov).

My take: I am rooting against the Oilers because they keep sending my LA Kings home, but I think McDavid gets it done in 6 games. Oilers in 6

Yesterday’s Trivia:

The characteristics of a clay court are a slow surface with a high bounce. Grass is considered the fastest surface with a low bounce, and hard courts/synthetic courts are medium/fast with the highest bounce.
